Supporting safe and successful international engagement for Australian sport
Sport Exchange Australia is committed to helping the Australian sports community engage with the world safely and successfully. Through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), we offer our partners an extensive range of support services including advocacy, travel guidance and health and safety advice.
Sport Exchange Australia uses its global network to help promote Australian sport to the world. Working with local and international allies, we advocate on behalf of Australian sporting organisations with the associations and governing bodies that oversee international sports competition. We are proud to have lent our support to Australia’s successful bid to co-host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, with our neighbours New Zealand.
DFAT offers a range of consular services to Australians travelling overseas, through its diplomatic posts. This includes looking after the health and welfare of travelling Australians, and helping with certain documents and negotiations.
Smartraveller, managed by DFAT, is a resource for Australians who are planning to travel, or who are already travelling, or living overseas. It offers travel advisories for 177 global destinations, with specific advice on safety issues, health risks, local laws, entry requirements and local contacts to use in the event that help is required. It also provides general advice on travel basics including passports and insurance.
DFAT works closely with Australian Government agencies including Austrade, Tourism Australia, and Export Finance Australia to support the international activity of Australian businesses. DFAT personnel develop productive relationships with ministers, government officials, business people, media representatives, think tanks, universities and community groups in their host countries, and use those insights to advise Australian businesses on key political, economic, commercial, regulatory and strategic developments.
